From Small Town Boy to Big City Dyer

Hello one and all!
My name is Will Spargur and I am the dyer behind Spargur Yarn Co. I'm so happy you've found my website!

I promise to keep my blog posts short and sweet, so as an introduction to all things Spargur Yarn Co., here’s some fun facts about me:

1. I have been singing or playing instruments since I was three years old. I have a Bachelors degree in Music, and I play saxophone, clarinet, flute, and bassoon.
2. I have been knitting for 10 years, and crocheting for 2.
3. I am a Cancer (June 29th).
4. I moved to Las Vegas in a single car load with almost no money.
5. I love model trains.
6. I have two dogs, Princess and Duchess, and I’m the Queen.
7. Books are awesome, but I rarely read. I mostly collect books because I like they way they look on a shelf.
8. I grew up in a town with only 872 residents at the time. Today it only has 1200 residents, and there are no stoplights.
9. I’m obsessed with Harry Potter, and I used to make wands for fun.
10. At one point I wanted to be a train engineer.
Yes, you read that right. I grew up in a very small town, Bloomfield, KY, and when I left at 18 years old, there were only 872 residents living there. We had one stoplight then, but recently someone hit one of the poles on the corner and knocked it down, and the town decided to put in a four way stop instead of another stoplight to save money.

I now live in Henderson, NV, a municipality just outside of Las Vegas. They aren’t separate entities anymore, really, as the boundaries between the two are so blurred it might as well just all be one city. I moved here in 2015 with my now ex-husband. I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy the craziness of Sin City, but after nearly 4 years here, I’m glad I made the decision to move. This is where my fiber artistry really took off. Its where I learned about hand dyed yarns, natural fibers, and yarn stores beyond Wal-Mart and Michaels.

I’m in my first year of hand dyeing, and honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t discover it sooner. I’ve always enjoyed creative outlets, but yarn dyeing gives me the freedom to throw whatever I want on the canvas, and then I can bring joy to others who love what I create. Yarn dyeing is an art that keeps giving. Its as if the joy I strive to receive from creativity doesn’t end once its being shipped to its new owner. I get to see pictures of new and exciting creations with my creations, and then I get to experience further joy knowing that the finished object is being used and loved by someone.

My thoughts are everywhere at the moment hoping I’ve given you the perfect introduction, but I know there are more exciting things to come, and I hope you’ll join me for them!
